I am based in Porto, Portugal.

I have been a drummer for Orquestra Bamba Social, performing in numerous concerts both in Portugal and abroad. We have recorded three albums (one of which was fully sponsored by the Portuguese Government), two EPs, and released various audiovisual content. Additionally, I collaborate as a freelance drummer on other pop, rock, and samba projects.

I do research in music, sound and listening practices.

I hold a Master of Music, specializing in Musicology, from the University of Aveiro (2017). My dissertation focussed on the practice of Brazilian popular music in Porto's night enternainment venues.

In december 2023, I was awarded a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology. My research on Bombos - traditional Portuguese percussion ensembles - was supported by a fully funded Ph.D. scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology of Portugal (FCT). The evaluation committee voted for the classification of Approved, considering the thesis to be deserving of "merit and distinction".

I presented/published my work at scientific events held at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, University of Aveiro, University of Coimbra, NOVA University of Lisbon, ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, University of Évora, University of Porto, National Museum of Ethnology, City University of London, Northumbria University, University of Sarajevo, University of Huelva, University of Ghana, Boston University, University of California (Los Angeles), and others.

I am currently conducting research in Fundão, central Portugal. Resorting to fieldwork, collaborative methodologies, sound recording and design, I am developing an ethnographic podcast series that explores the collective and affective memory of local Bombos, the dynamics of musical performance and heritagization, as well as the ‘new’ initiatives involving percussion in this territory, focussing, particularly, on the use of bombos and caixas in educational contexts, alongside gender-related issues. This work is funded by the Fundão City Council through a grant whithin the scope of “(Re)Cri'Arte Program: Long-Term Artistic Grants from the Municipality of Fundão | 2024-2025.”

I also teach drums, offering private lessons at Buscapólos Associação Cultural, and at the Academy of Music of Colégio do Forte in Vila do Conde.

On this website you find some of my work.
